The Mad Butcher of Kingsbury Run
This tune is based on the true story of a madman who terrorized Cleveland in the 1930s. It's a compelling story. His murders were concentrated in a depression-era shanty-town on the fringes of the city known as Kingsbury Run. Eliot Ness, after his successes in Chicago, was recruited by the city of Cleveland to deal with their crime issues. He had trouble identifying some of the victims, so in hopes that someone passing through the fair might recognize them, death masks were put on display at the world's fair. We thought this was creepy and imagined being a visitor to the Cleveland World Fair and coming upon this exhibit. The song is based around an imaginary conversation with one of these masks, who recounts the tale to the visitor.
